Rusinga Agriculture Network (RAN) was born from both lived experience and a deep desire to transform lives.
I was born and raised on Rusinga Island in Homabay County, Kenya, where fishing has been the backbone of the local economy for generations. For centuries, families have depended on Lake Victoria for their livelihoods, food, and survival. However, over time, fish stocks in Lake Victoria have significantly declined. This has led to widespread economic hardship, making it difficult for many families to meet their basic needs.
Empowering Rusinga’s Future Through Sustainable Farming
We are dedicated to bridging the gap between traditional fishing and sustainable agriculture. Our mission is to provide the tools, knowledge, and community support necessary for Rusinga Island’s fishing families to transition into resilient farming, ensuring long-term food security and economic stability for generations to come.
